Sydney Thunder’s Maddie Penna was forced to leave her side’s WBBL match against the Adelaide Strikers early after suffering a nasty knock to the head.
Penna made a big dive to stop a potential boundary before an unlucky bounce resulted in the knock.
The 21-year-old was attended to by medical staff as she struggled to get back on her feet.
It took several minutes before Penna managed to find her feet and walk off the field alongside the Thunder’s medical staff.
“She looks to have really hurt herself … she looks in agony,” commentator Adam Peacock said.
“That’s awful. There is no way in the world she could’ve done anything about that.”
Former Australian star Michelle Goszko added: “That’s terrible to watch.”
“We [watching] felt that. It’s not a nice thing to happen … I got hit in the face a couple of times.
“We just hope Maddie is OK … it’s just awful when that happens.”
The Thunder are yet to provide an update on Penna’s condition.
