Andrew Nabbout produces goal of the season contender for Melbourne City against Adelaide United

Melbourne City forward Andrew Nabbout has produced a goal of the season contender early on in the A-League season.

With City leading 1-0 thanks to Socceroos striker Jamie Maclaren, Nabbout picked up possession on the right wing, cut inside one defender and curled the ball into the far corner with the outside of his boot from 20 yards.

Nabbout famously pulled off a similar goal in 2018 against the Wanderers, when he was plying his trade for the Newcastle Jets.

Oddly enough, both that match and this one finished 2-2, with Adelaide pegging one back with 12 minutes to play through Stefan Mauk, before Ben Halloran grabbed a 19th-minute equaliser.

The point was enough to keep City on top of the table after their first two games.

Nabbout burst onto the scene in the A-League when he scored a late winner for Melbourne Victory in a fierce Big Blue against Sydney FC, but his career stagnated shortly after.

He revived his career across two years with the Jets, with his 2017-18 campaign being especially impressive. He won goal of the year for that aforementioned strike and earned a call-up to the Socceroos for the Russia World Cup.

In other action on Saturday, Wellington Phoenix beat Central Coast Mariners 2-1, while Sydney FC were beaten 1-0 by Macarthur.
