Good morning and welcome to our day three coverage of the fourth Ashes Test at the SCG. It’s always a special day for cricket in this country, with a pink tinge for a worthy cause, raising funds for the McGrath Foundation.
Former England captain Michael Vaughan was pleasantly surprised that openers Haseeb Hameed and Zak Crawley survived a testing five overs before stumps, albeit with a huge slice of luck when Crawley was recalled thanks to a Starc no ball.
Vaughan added that the SCG pitch had enough in it for the bowlers that the England batters swill have their hands full with Cummins, Starc and the rest of the Aussie attack today.
“There is not as much grass on the wicket as we saw at the MCG,” Vaughan said.
“But when you take guard on this wicket I think you see a lot of trouble. It’s a negative frame of mind and that is the England batting line-up at the minute.
“I think the Aussies just see an opportunity and it is … can England see an opportunity? If they can do that they can get some runs, but it will not be easy against this attack on this kind of surface.”
