Changes to GO Train service on Lakeshore East line after fatal weekend accident

A portion of the Lakeshore East GO Transit line will be without train service for the next several days due to an investigation into an accident that claimed the life of a worker over the weekend.

Metrolinx says it plans to run half-hour service to all stations along the Lakeshore East line using a combination of rail and bus service. GO Trains will run between Union Station and Guildwood and between Pickering and Oshawa. Shuttle buses will be used to take customers between Guildwood and Pickering stations.

“Journey times for customers using stations between Oshawa and Rouge Hill and travelling to Union Station, will experience delays of approximately 30 minutes,” the provincial transit agency said in a statement on Sunday. “As a result, we’re asking customers to plan ahead, give themselves extra time and be sure to check the GO Transit website before heading out the door.”

Metrolinx says the service changes will likely remain in effect until at least Thursday.

The Ministry of Labour is investigating after a 41-year-old man was killed Saturday night when he was pinned under a freight car while working on the tracks east of Rouge Hill GO station in Pickering.
