Erik ten Hag has insisted Marcus Rashford is going nowhere this summer, following reports linking the Manchester United forward with a transfer to Paris Saint-Germain.
The French champions have been admirers of the England star with their interest stretching back to last summer.
Talk of their interest and a possible bid in the final three weeks of the transfer window have gathered pace over the last 24 hours, with new PSG manager Christophe Galtier keen to sign a new attacker.
A number of pundits have even urged Man United and Rashford to make the move happen, with claims the out-of-form striker could benefit from a change of scenery and a new challenge.
However, Ten Hag has quickly moved to quash any talk of Rashford leaving Old Trafford, insisting the 24-year-old remains an ‘important’ part of his plans.
Rashford has entered the last 12 months of his United deal but the club have the option of triggering another year that would see the England international tied to the club until 2024.
The Red Devils are believed to be relaxed about PSG’s interest in their academy graduate, despite reports of Rashford’s brother and agent meeting with officials of the Ligue 1 club last week, with Ten Hag now admitting he does not want to lose the No.10.
“He’s really important,” Ten Hag said in his Friday press conference ahead of Saturday’s clash against Brentford.
“You have seen from the first day I’m in, I’m really happy with him, I definitely don’t want to lose him.
“He’s in our plans and he will stay at Manchester United.”
PSG’s interest is believed to be in its early stages with no bid made for the forward yet, but should the Parisians press forward with an opening offer, it would provide a huge test of Rashford’s resolve with the opportunity to play in Galtier’s forward-thinking side alongside superstars Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar.
For now, Rashford remains deflated in a United side lacking direction, made worse by their opening-day defeat aft home to Brighton last Sunday.
With three weeks remaining in the transfer window, it has been suggested the rumours could all be a ploy to force United’s hand in contract negotiations.
Regardless, losing Rashford during a summer when top scorer Cristiano Ronaldo has angled for a move away from the club, plus the failure to land their top targets, would present a huge risk ahead of what was supposed to be a season with renewed optimism at Old Trafford.
