It’s no secret that people from around the U.S., and the world, travel to Maui to experience the lush tropical environment and beaches of this special island. (Not to mention the luaus and varied Hawaiian cultural shows.) But to be on Maui and not partake of other forms of stand-out entertainment, is to deprive yourself of a great deal.
So the next time you’re on Maui, make sure to visit Warren & Annabelle’s Magic!, an upscale comedy nightclub on Front Street in Lahaina, which offers one of the best things to do on the Kaanapali side of Maui at night. This up-close-and-personal, sleight-of-hand magic show in an intimate setting will wow you with “How did he do that?” amazement. It has never been so much fun to be baffled!
Which brings me to the first reason why you should visit Warren & Annabelle’s. Owner and comedy magician Warren Gibson delivers an amazing Las-Vegas-worthy show, and when he’s not performing, the venue usually offers two – count ‘em – two incredibly talented comedy magicians per night for the price of one $92 admission ticket. The entire evening spans about 3.5 hours, and it is an evening you will not forget. Over the years, Warren has hand-picked a very select few magicians that stand far and above competitors – and it shows. These superior up-close magicians will do incredible things – not just with playing cards, always, but sometimes with lemons, walnuts, and even bowling balls – that are simply impossible to figure out. All this, in an extremely intimate, small venue that will leave you astounded for a long time to come. It’s the Wow factor, on steroids! Personally, I’ve seen the shows at least seven times, and it still feels fresh and new – and very entertaining – each time I see it again.
The next reason Warren & Annabelle’s Magic! is must-do when on Maui: The cuisine. You really wouldn’t expect a nightclub such as this to have amazing food – but your tastebuds are in for a treat. Chef Hector Lopez makes 99% of everything from scratch, and it shows in the delicious cuisine on the menu. The best value is the Royal Flush package, which costs $59 pp and includes four gourmet appetizers, mixed greens salad, homemade sauces, two premium cocktails, and this price even includes your gratuity.
Some of the menu items include the best coconut shrimp I’ve ever tasted, crab cakes, chicken satay, absolutely delicious ravioli in creamy blush sauce (be still my beating heart) and Kalua pork quesadillas. To top things off, there are a choice of six homemade desserts: We love the chocolate pot de crème, but there’s also a New York white-chocolate-raspberry cheesecake and Key lime pie. Whew! It’s a high-talent, high-value experience that is quite unmatched. Trust me, there’s nowhere else on Maui where you can go out to dinner, for a gourmet meal such as this, with drinks, and tip, for just $59pp. The cocktails, called “Magical Mixtures,” include Annabelle’s Apparition, a blended alcoholic smoothie with Irish cream and butterscotch schnapps. Annabelle, by the way, is the ”ghost” who entertains you with her piano playing while you’re having dinner before the show.
The third reason I recommend Warren & Annabelle’s is that it offers good, clean fun. Unlike many of today’s performers, and comedians in particular, none of the professional magicians here use any profanity, and it’s very refreshing. You won’t cringe from hearing four-letter words or bathroom humor. This too-rare type of talent and culture is impressive and exemplary. Instead, you’ll see a show – or two – of superior, first-rate magicians who have performed around the world – everywhere from The White House to Broadway. “They’re really top-notch”, says Lisa Gibson, Warren’s wife, and co-owner of the small, 70-seat venue.
Another reason? If you are an active duty serviceman or woman, who is serving in Iraq or Afghanistan, you will receive two comped tickets. Other active duty service people receive a 50% discount. Admirable and honorable.
The only downside? It can be quite cold in the theater, so make sure to bring a sweater.
All this adds up to an unforgettable time at Warren & Annabelle’s Magic!– faster than you can say, “Abracadabra.”
