How To Celebrate Cherry Blossom Season In Washington, D.C. This Year

Whether you’re tuning in virtually via #BloomCam or planning to see the blossoms in all their blooming glory in person this year, it’s bound to be memorable. With the peak cherry blossom bloom expected to happen next week between March 22 and 25, 2022, visitors and residents alike are flocking to the Tidal Basin to make the most of this annual natural phenomenon. Here’s where to celebrate the season, with special events popping up all over the city and hotels offering themed packages.

Attend National Cherry Blossom Festival Events

The National Cherry Blossom Festival kicks off Sunday, March 20, 2022, celebrating its 110th anniversary with four weeks of themed events through April 17, including pop-up art installations all over the city, the Blossom Kite Festival (March 26), an in-person 10-mile run and 5K run-walk (April 3), a parade (April 9), the Petalpalooza Festival with fireworks on the Capitol Waterfront (April 16), the Pink Tie Dinner Party (April 28) and cultural performances at the ANA Stage by the Tidal Basin March 19–April 3.

See Pixelbloom At Artechouse

On display at Artechouse now through June 5, Pixelbloom offers a whole new take on the cherry blossoms, with an immersive experience that can only be described as a 22-minute visual adventure. Swing by the XR Bar for a drink or mocktail to enjoy during your session, then veg out in the main gallery—there’s plenty of room to spread out, find a seat on the provided cushions and snap the perfect pic for your Instagram. Leave some time to check out the interactive exhibits in the side galleries, which pick up on your movements as you walk or dance by them. Admission is $25 per adult; $20 for seniors over 65, students, military members and first responders; $17 for children ages 4–15; children under age 4 get in free. DC Metro Area residents can save $5 on weekday tickets by showing proof of residency.
