The F1 22 video game comes out tomorrow for early access buyers and slightly disappointing news is that crossplay and cross platform multiplayer support isn’t available at launch.
Although the postponement is disappointing, there’s still lots to look forward to in Codemasters’ newest entry. The always enjoyable career mode returns, PlayStation users get some unique DualSense features, and the game looks more stunning and realistic than ever.
You will be able to play with friends across different platforms eventually, but – for launch – you will have to settle for the same console family.
Is F1 22 crossplay?
The F1 22 video game is not crossplay at launch but cross platform multiplayer is coming.
As for why the feature is not available from day one, the game’s Senior Creative Director, Lee Mather, told Racing Games that it’s because the team Codemasters has partnered with were located in Ukraine.
There’s no indication of when the feature will arrive as Mather simply said it’s “going to take a little bit longer than expected”.
When the feature does launch, it will be supported across PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
Can PS4 play with PS5?
While crossplay isn’t available at launch, some better news is that F1 22 does support cross-gen multiplayer meaning PS4 users can play with PS5, and the same for Xbox One with Series X/S.
This is confirmed over on the game’s official Dual-Entitlement page. In regards to Dual-Entitlement, there is no free upgrade from last to next-gen.
You only get F1 22 for last and current-gen if you buy the Champions edition. If you buy the Standard edition on PS4 or Xbox One, you will need to buy it again on PS5 or Xbox Series X/S.
