Manchester United get good draw at Chelsea but Roy Keane goes in on Red Devils and slams Michael Carrick’s post-match comments

A draw at Chelsea is a decent result for Manchester United but that didn’t stop Roy Keane from going in on the club.

Caretaker boss Michael Carrick argued the penalty for Chelsea’s equaliser shouldn’t have been given and praised his players for executing their game plan at Stamford Bridge.

This didn’t sit well with Keane, who slammed Carrick for the interview he gave with Sky Sports after the 1-1 draw.

“I disagree with everything he said in that interview,” Keane told Sky Sports.

“He’s talking about a plan, he’s talking about the penalty, of course it was a penalty.

“He’s talking about the player’s efforts, he’s proud of them, he’s been working with the players for the last few months… he was alongside Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer]. He was in the dugout with Ole, and now all of a sudden he’s proud of them this week and they had a plan? What about all the other games?

“It’s ridiculous, he was sitting in the dugout for the last few months with Ole, the last few years, and he was sitting with Jose Mourinho as well, and all of a sudden he’s proud of the players this week? He’s working with the same players.”

This may be the final match with Carrick at the helm at Man United before Ralf Rangnick takes the reins until the end of the season.

Keane voiced his dissatisfaction at the way recruiting is done at Old Trafford in recent times, suggesting previous decisions have led to the club finishing lower down the Premier League table than they’d like.

“They have to be held accountable, some of the staff, because they weren’t just with Ole,” Keane added. “They were with Mourinho as well before that, and what are they going to stay on with the new manager?

“I get the impression at Manchester United that the last few years some of the backroom staff, people upstairs, I think there is an element now at Man United of jobs for the boys, you know, wink wink, look after each other, know the right people, and that’s why they’re eighth or ninth in the league.

“The proof’s in the pudding over the next few months, the next few years with who comes into the club, and it’s not because you know somebody, or because you’ve got a certain agent.

“We hope whoever comes into the club, and when they do come in they start making the right decisions and get the right people in for the job, and not because you might know somebody, or because somebody’s a decent guy.

“The idea of loyalty in the game, if you want loyalty go and get yourself a dog, you’ve got to work with decent people who are good at their job.

“It’s definitely a bit of a pals act going on at Man United, without a doubt.”
