Michigan man enters plea for New Year’s 2020 shooting

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — A Michigan man pleaded guilty Wednesday to charges related to a 2020 shooting at a Huntington establishment.

Kymoni Davis, 33, of Redford, Michigan, admitted to firing a pistol through the front door of Kulture Hookah Bar shortly after midnight on Jan. 1, 2020. He fled the scene; seven people were injured by gunfire.

Davis was prohibited from possessing a firearm because of prior convictions in Michigan, including uttering and publishing, false pretenses with intent to defraud and delivering a check without an account.

According to court documents, Davis had been ejected from a New Year’s Eve party before the shooting.

Authorities used surveillance video and witness statements to identify Davis. Davis was arrested in the Detroit area several months after the shooting and returned to West Virginia.

Davis faces a maximum of 10 years in prison, three years of supervised release and a $250,000 fine. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 19.
