Cody Filly standout Tara Joyce continued to make a splash in the pool on Tuesday night in Powell, as she broke the state record in the 50 freestyle and was just .06 seconds away from setting the state record in the 100 butterfly in a dual with the Lady Panthers.
Her 28.98 in the lead off of the 200 free edged Lander’s Mei Ratz’s previous state record of 24.17 set in 2004.
Joyce touched out in 58.47 in the 100 fly, narrowly topping the state record of 58.41 set by Newcastle’s Erin Wagner in 2003.
Kelly Joyce finished with her best time in the 100 fly in 1:11.51 and took second in the 200 IM in 2:35.91.
“The divers did well, too,” coach Emily Swett said. “It’s reverse week which is a challenge for some of them, so Tuesday was really about trying new dives in a competition setting.”
Summer LaVigne and Kelsey Pomajzl both posted top times in the 100 free, with LaVigne clocking her best time with a 1:01.06, and Pomajzl landing second with a 1:00.73.
LaVigne also added a best time in the 100 backstroke with a 1:09.93 for seconds place.
“It was also a great time for Haven Robbins in the 500 free,” Swett said. “She was under 5 seconds from qualifying for state.”
Lily Jones finished with her best time in the 500 free with a 6:39.04.
The foursome of Kelly Joyce, LaVigne, Pomajzl and Tara Joyce also cruised to first in the 400 free relay with a 4:03.58, six seconds ahead of Powell.
The Fillies hit the road and head to Lander on Friday and Worland on Saturday before hosting their own invitational next Thursday at the Rec Center for Homecoming.
