Scarpetta Brings La Dolce Vita To The World


Just when you think Tulum’s social temperature can’t get any hotter welcome New York local Scarpetta to the scene. Known for hand made pastas and chic decor, the pop up was a no brainer for LDV Hospitality founders who have expanded the Scarpetta concept to the Hamptons, Las Vegas, Miami, London and even as far as a separate pop up at the Dubai Expo. So what’s next for the, now, truly international team? According to their website, Rome and Tokyo but then, well, the sky is the limit.

“What is so exciting about being in the restaurant world today, is that it has become truly international.” Says John Meadow, Founder and President of LDV Hospitality. “Whether via Instagram, or more accessible travel, and most of all a far more open mind set, dining communities have become global, and we are so very grateful to be a part of that.”

While it’s too late to check out the Tulum pop up at Distrito Panamera from this past February, their La Dolce Vita menu features classic dishes and signature cocktails that remain on the New York menu. Visitors can still indulge in charred octopus, ravioli cacio e pepe and more. The classic spaghetti pomodoro is a forever fan-favorite but with full menus including braised short rib and branzino, the options are extensive.

So why a pop up in Mexico? “We [were] excited to bring our modern Italian dining to Mexico, a vibrant culinary destination so deeply rooted in culture and tradition. This is the true meaning of la dolce vita,” says John Meadow, founder and CEO of LDV Hospitality.

La dolce vita has been the overarching goal since Scarpetta’s New York inception in 2008. The hospitality group LDV’s letter stand for the phrase which also serves as a mission. The goal? To bring “the good life” back to the dining room. The concept was to take inspiration from “iconic, classic moments of old-world hospitality and adapting them to modern social life, we create genuine food and beverage experiences with an ambiance of effortless elegance.”

Sister restaurant American Cut’s flagship location is also located in New York City. Since it’s 2013 Tribeca opening they’ve pioneered the class upscale steakhouse with table-side service and updated takes on classic dishes creating a theatrical backdrop. Not all concepts began in New York. Dolce Italian, another feather in the LDV cap was created for the Miami, Atlantic City and Philadelphia markets.

The point? To create a signature brand of hospitality by offering exceptional service paired with the best food and beverage programs possible. Founder and President John Meadow credits his team of extraordinary staff for their commitment to “culinary integrity and excellence in service, [which] continues to deliver unforgettable experiences that define a true sense of occasion and place.” Which has clearly been the game changing element in all of that international growth.

So what’s next for the disrupters in the food space?

John Meadow responds, “We opened in London at the Bulgari Hotel in 2019, and while the pandemic certainly slowed our plans, we have developed a robust international pipeline. After successful pop ups in Tulum and Dubai World Expo, we are now poised to open in Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and South America over the next two years.”
